The Outer Exploration

Life is an Adventure

The feeling of exploration is like being able to open a present in each moment as the world unfolds in front of you.  If adventure is like a delicious meal that you savor with curiosity at each bite, the discovery of yet unseen places or new interactions with people is like the finish of a great wine.

Exploration and adventure feeds the soul. There is nothing quite like healthy curiosity to keep your mind and body young. Great adventures make for a life lived full.  Be it a weekend road trip or a five year expedition, exploration and adventure make for a life lived to it’s fullest.

Below are a few examples of the adventures we have been able to experience  followed by a few of the locations.  The diversity is a blessing.  My observations are shaped by the people, places and adventures that I am able to experience.  Until I can make this a tag cloud, these lists give some idea of what has shaped the observations here.

Being in Service

One of the key parts of a good journey is being in service. In fact, being in service is a great component of any life lived well.  The art of “Being in Service” can take many shapes and mediums. Support of the people, or custodian of the earth or aid to the animals. I consider myself lucky to have shared work, successes, laughter and meals with many of the different peoples of the planet.  Building a home or fixing a long broken generator on a remote island can change a life or a whole village.  Teaching skills, sharing dances, delivering food and supplies and hope make an adventure full of heart. Living in balance with the earth and tending to the well being of all it’s living creatures connects the soul to our higher purpose.

Types of Adventures and Expeditions

Exploring our planet both on and under the water and on and under land.  At times discovering beauty seen by humans for the first time.

  • Sailing – captained over 40,000 nautical miles between Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South Pacific and the Americas.
  • Caving – over 9 days underground at a time discovering many miles of virgin passages across many countries of the world.
  • Adventure Racing – Team Nike in 1995 ECO challenge.
  • Mountain Climbing and Hiking – solo trips into remote mountains lasting over a week and group climbs reaching over 19,000 ft.
  • Surfing – surfing remote areas accessible only by boat in many parts of the world.
  • Scuba, Free Diving and Snorkeling – from being with 800 sharks in a single dive to whales, dolphins,
  • Animals: from petting whales to walking with cheetahs and lions.
  • Biking: along coastlines and around islands.
  • Kayaking: remote reefs and archipelagos and running rivers.
  • Paddle Boarding: around islands and across bays.
  • Skiing, Skydiving, River Rafting, 4x4ing, Safaris, Bungee Jumping, Tyroleans, Zip Lines and many many more…

Locations of some of our Adventures

The peoples of these countries are a blessing to the planet and I consider myself lucky to have shared laughter and meals with many.  For others we offered support and aid, in some cases building homes in others helping at orphanages and teaching skills.
